Saturday saw a thrilling encounter between Kelvedon RFC & Maldon 2s.

Kelvedon started off the game brilliantly, earning a well deserved lead. Maldon's defence was impressive, but the occassional lapse in concentration meant the score crept up to 18 - 0 to the home side just before half time. But, some great handling from the backs released Sam Moon to score Maldon's first points of the afternoon.

HT 18 - 5

The second half saw Maldon up their game, quick counter attacking from Maldon's back three injected energy into the 'Vikings'. Soon, Perkins would cross the line for a try after acting as a battering ram all afternoon. A brilliant finish from full back Alex Thompson saw Maldon edge closer to Kelvedon. Still work to be done though.

The last 5 minutes of the game was great viewing. Maldon got the ball down the back line once more and this allowed Zak Knight to finish well in the corner for the 'Vikings' to take the lead. Keveldon would not give up though, there were still a few minutes of play to go. The home side worked their way down the pitch, Maldon ended up giving away a few penalties in their attempts to prevent Kelvedon from crossing the line. Eventually, the resilience of Maldon proved too much for Kelvedon, with a turn over which led to the ball being kicked off the pitch.

FT 18 - 22

This was an outstanding performance from Maldon 2s, to be 18 - 0 down and then score 22 unanswered points is a fantastic achievement!

This game set the standard for the 2s, with every player giving it their all.

MOTM - Alfie Savill.

A big thank you for all the support from Maldon RFC which, as Captain Pask pointed out, made it feel like a home fixture where the supporters words of encouragement drowned out that of Kelvedon's.

Next week sees the 'Vikings' take on Witham 1s at Drapers Farm, be sure to get down and support.
